How to compare wood, metal & resin sheds

Compare complete, named products against the same task. Then compare appearance and care. Material alone does not establish usable space, included work, durability in your setting or the ease of making changes.

Write one use brief first

Describe the largest item, what you reach for every day and anything you will do inside. For a bicycle store, independent retrieval may matter more than a generous empty floor area. For a workshop, a workbench and standing area are part of the task.

Use the same brief for each candidate. Otherwise an inexpensive empty shell can appear equivalent to a building that includes a floor, finish and installation simply because both are described by the same nominal size.

Ask the same questions of every candidate

Collect answers from product instructions or the supplier and keep unresolved items blank. Quote dates and model numbers matter: a generic material article should not silently become the specification for the building you are considering.

Keep visual preferences alongside practical needs

Collect one exterior reference and one interior reference that explain your preferences. Identify what you like about them: cladding texture, light, a generous entrance or a particular storage arrangement. Ask whether that feature is included, optional or merely illustrative.

For concept images on this site, the dimensions and checks belong to the accompanying study, while colors, textures and furnishings may be illustrative. Use the fact card and resource description when making a specification.

Make a comparison you can act on

Choose the candidate whose confirmed specification fits the task and whose unresolved questions you can realistically settle. If a key item such as clear opening or base scope is unknown, ask for it before treating the comparison as finished.

Save the short checklist below with your candidates. A useful result can be a reason to exclude an option, not just a preferred purchase. Revisit the choice when the actual equipment, intended use or quoted scope changes.

Keep these questions with your project.
