The nominal footprint increases from 120 to 192 sq ft. That is 72 sq ft more on paper; the useful difference depends on interior dimensions, openings and the same inventory.
Layout reference · A mower-led storage study with a front shelf you can reach independently. See what fits in the assumed interior, what can come out first, and what changes when the shelf moves.
Straight mower exit; front shelf approach checked; bin retrieval unassessed.
Keep the comparison fair
Keep the number, dimensions, access frequency and chosen allowances of the objects unchanged. Each reference has its own explicitly assumed interior and opening. Compare real product measurements before treating the result as your purchase decision.
Name the improvement
Look for a specific conflict that changes: an overlap clears, an opening passes or a selected route becomes usable. A larger nominal area is not itself evidence that all objects can enter or be retrieved. No suitable candidate is a valid outcome.
Can the mobile tool be parked, moved and used with other fixtures fixed?
Same arrangement: 10×12 and 12×16
Equipment, activities and allowances are identical. The authored shell dimensions and opening can differ. The drawings use one scale, including full-size items that cannot be placed. Positions can change as the bounded layout search uses the available space.
Example interior 136 × 184 in; clear door 72 × 78 in.
Dark: equipment or storage. Pale areas: activities or zones. Dimensions in inches; scale changes with the view.
1. Reserved entry cross-aisle: 136 × 24 in
2. Reserved side aisle: 24 × 130 in
3. Bench standing area: 60 × 30 in
4. Workbench: 60 × 24 in
5. Mobile tool parked footprint: 30 × 30 in
6. Tool chest: 30 × 24 in
The shown arrangement preserves its reserved spaces and entry aisle.
A failed arrangement is not proof that every layout in this size fails. Only the displayed axis-aligned arrangements were tested.
Equipment footprints and reserved spaces are editable planning assumptions. These rectangles do not establish manufacturer operating clearances.
Moving from the first example to the second changes usable width by 24 in, depth by 48 in and clear door width by 8 in. These differences belong to these examples. Obtain actual product measurements before choosing.
A changed result applies to the shown arrangement only. A different layout may work; a larger candidate can still fail a doorway, site or budget check.
Separate the ground footprint from the access result
These are nominal building footprints, without a foundation extension, overhang or setback. Their overlap does not describe either product's interior or door.

7. Workbench: 60 × 24 in
8. Tool chest: 30 × 24 in
9. Mobile tool parked footprint: 30 × 30 in
A failed arrangement is not proof that every layout in this size fails. Only the displayed axis-aligned arrangements were tested.
The highlighted state retains the same inventory and working requirements. An unchanged opening or blocked route can remain limiting even when the nominal footprint increases. Inspect other operating states in the expanded viewer.
What changes, and what stays limiting?
Usable width
112 → 136 in +24 in
Usable depth
136 → 184 in +48 in
Clear opening width
64 → 72 in +8 in
Clear opening height
78 → 78 in Unchanged
The 10×12 result is “This tested arrangement has unresolved geometry conflicts.”; the 12×16 result is “The shown arrangement preserves its reserved spaces and entry aisle.”. Read the specific conflicts above before attributing a change to size. Several shell measurements may change together.
Measure before choosing
Measure the mobile tool parked and deployed, then list which fixtures must stay in place during use.
If your arrangement still fails
Open the operating-state view. A parked pass cannot resolve a deployed collision. Identify whether width, depth, tool position or an unchanged opening is limiting the actual movement.
The dimensions above belong to authored examples, not universal specifications for these nominal sizes.
The public sample follows the same mobile tools through 10×12 and 12×16 storage and working states. Your personal record uses the candidates and inventory currently in your project, including unknown measurements.

Same inventory, less overlap in the larger interior
Two authored 60 × 100 × 20 in rectangular storage footprints collide in the smaller example interior. Compare the exact same pair in the larger interior. Seasonal access intentionally leaves independent retrieval unassessed: no collision is not a complete usability approval.

Choose after the yard and quote checks
A layout that fits inside can still be the wrong project for the site or budget. Record the usable yard, confirmed setback, equipment route and separate delivery requirements. Ask for written quotes with the same foundation, installation and delivery scope. Unknown costs are not zero, and this comparison does not provide an engineering or permit decision.
