A single desk, a chair that can pull back, and a shallow bookcase. Compare a quiet charcoal-and-timber finish with the actual space needed to enter, sit and put work away.
Original layout study — not a built project. Layout and planning files, not construction drawings.
AI concept finish. Charcoal vertical siding and a single timber glazed door. Surfaces, windows and decorative details are illustrative; use diagrams for dimensions. Click image to enlarge.
Is this the right direction?
Consider it when…
One person doing desk-based work with compact storage.
A desk facing the rear wall, with daylight from a side window in the finish concept.
Know the trade-offs
A rear-facing desk keeps the middle open but needs a deliberate view and glare check.
A file cabinet placed behind the chair consumes the space reserved for pulling back.
Read the finishes. Keep the useful ideas.
A quiet office direction: dark vertical siding outside, pale surfaces inside and one warm timber desk. The exterior and interior are companion concepts, not measured views of a completed building.
Keep the working position simple
The reference puts one desk against the rear wall. Side daylight and the camera's bright exposure describe the visual idea; test screen reflections and the real view at your working hours before fixing the desk position.
Choose storage after the chair
The shallow bookcase is separate from the chair reservation. Measure drawers, cabinet doors and the chair pulled back. A second cabinet behind the chair is the counterexample below, even though it can look reasonable in a still photograph.
Read the surface palette accurately
Charcoal cladding, a timber door and pale internal finishes are appearance choices. The image does not identify a wall assembly, insulation level, flooring product or suitable fixing. Ask for those specifications separately.
Take away a focused brief
Record the actual desk, chair movement, file storage, daylight preferences, internet and power needs. Plants and the loose rug are decorative styling outside the measured baseline; give any retained floor objects their own footprint.

Nominal exterior class only. All clear dimensions below are authored example inputs, not a product specification.
Usable width · planning assumption
88 in
Independent authored interior input; not calculated from the nominal shell.
Usable depth · planning assumption
136 in
Independent authored interior input; not a wall-assembly result.
Selected clear entry · planning assumption
36 in
Illustrative planning input; not a minimum requirement.
Task reservation width · planning assumption
60 in
Selected test area; replace with actual movement measurements.
Task reservation depth · planning assumption
36 in
Selected test area; not ergonomic approval.
Furniture is only part of the floor
Desk: 60×24 in at (14,112); Bookcase: 12×48 in at (76,28). Coordinates start at the front-left corner; x runs right and y runs toward the rear.
The chair reservation is 60×36 in; it is an example working envelope, not a furniture dimension or accessibility standard. Try your own chair through its full movement before selecting a shell.
What this shows: 88×136 in usable floor; 36 in selected clear entry. Original diagram. Authored reference; inches unless marked unknown.
Enter, put the bag away, pull the chair back, then sit. Reverse the sequence at the end of the day.
The green route is a selected straight approach. Door operation, turns, reach and furniture movement still need a physical mock-up with your own measurements. No doorway height or outdoor approach is inferred.
What this shows: Enter, put the bag away, pull the chair back, then sit. Reverse the sequence at the end of the day. Original diagram. Authored reference; inches unless marked unknown.
Adding a 24×20 in file cabinet at (32,88) occupies 480 square inches of the chair reservation. The desk and shed have not changed; the added storage is the cause. Keep files in the shallow bookcase or re-plan with measured furniture.
Keep the original floor, entry and task reservation fixed when comparing alternatives. Change one input at a time so the benefit or loss remains visible.
What this shows: The counterexample overlaps reserved space by 480 square inches. Original diagram. Authored reference; inches unless marked unknown.
This study does not offer automatic layout adoption. The tools show its context alongside your current private project, and ask for your own measurements.
