12×16 Storage + Hand-work Shed

Keep the mower, front shelf and seasonal bin from the 10×12 study, then add a rear bench. Working at that bench requires the mower outside first.

Original layout study — not a built project. Layout and planning files, not construction drawings.

12×16 Storage + Hand-work Shed. A storage shed with a rear hand-work bench.
Original diagram. Illustrative form, not verified construction geometry.

Is this the right direction?

Consider it when…

  • A storage-first shed with occasional hand-tool work.
  • A task sequence that allows rolling the mower outside before work.

Know the trade-offs

  • The parked mower overlaps the authored standing reservation by 4 in.
  • The added bench is extra inventory; the larger opening is also a changed input.

Dimensions, with their definitions

Nominal exterior class only. All clear dimensions below are authored example inputs, not a product specification.

Usable width · planning assumption
136 in

After authored wall allowance.

Usable depth · planning assumption
184 in

After authored wall allowance.

Clear entry width · planning assumption
72 in

Centered; 78 in authored clear height.

Standing depth · planning assumption
30 in

Authored reservation, not ergonomic approval.

Parked overlap depth · calculated
4 in

Mower rear at 134; standing zone begins at 130.

Read the example inputs

Mower 54×84 in; shelf 18×72; bin 20×30; bench 60×24. Coordinates start at the front-left: mower (41,50), shelf (0,0), bin (0,154), bench (38,160).

The standing reservation is (38,130), 60×30 in. These are example inputs, not measurements from a sold shed.

Read the example inputs. Four inches of the standing zone meet the parked mower.

Roll out, then work

1. Open the full entrance and move the mower to a suitable outdoor staging location. 2. Carry the hand tools to the rear bench. 3. Finish and clear the standing zone before returning the mower.

The floor model checks rectangles and access. It does not assess machinery operation, exhaust, electrical work or the outdoor turn.

Roll out, then work. Remove the mower before using the bench reservation.

What the larger shell changes

P01 has 112×136 in usable floor and a 64 in clear opening. This P02 example has 136×184 in usable floor and a 72 in opening. The mower, shelf and bin keep their original dimensions; the bench is explicitly additional.

Extra floor area does not create simultaneous bench access with the mower parked. The working sequence is the deciding trade-off.

What the larger shell changes. Same three stored objects, plus a bench and a wider opening.

The same items, with a different work sequence

P01 and P02 at the same scale, with identical stored-item dimensions; P02 adds a bench and a standing area that overlaps the parked mower.
Original comparison of the authored study inputs. P02 changes both the interior and the clear opening (64 to 72 in), and adds a bench. Move the mower outside before using the standing reservation. These are spatial checks, not construction or operating-clearance approval.

Take the next useful step

Keep the parts that match your task. Confirm these remaining conditions before buying or building:

  • Measure usable interior, actual opening and equipment attachments.
  • Check the outdoor staging space, threshold and turning route.
  • Confirm bench use, ventilation, lighting and electrical needs separately.

Try the supported floor, object and task inputs in your private planner. Illustrated hand tools are not modeled individually. The storage checker evaluates bench retrieval; the diagram’s 30 in standing reservation is a separate authored study, not a machine-operating model. This replaces the working project only after you confirm. Display units are retained; unspecified material, site and quote inputs stay unknown. Save anything you want to keep first.

Check this idea with your own inputs
